I’ve put the finishing touches on the Explore Chinese New Year box and it is finally, finally ready to go. The Teacher’s Guide is full of activities, ranging from the very simple (good luck banners) to the more complex (New Year woodblock printing). You can see a sample here.

Along with the objects in the box, I’ve included two excellent books on Chinese New Year, a fun, boisterous CD of percussion instruments and a short documentary about a young girl celebrating Chinese New Year in rural China. After exploring the objects and resources in the box and participating in the activities, students should come away with a comprehensive understanding of the history and customs behind Chinese New Year.
